World Compliment Day

For a day, could we flood our fellow man with compliments? 

Not empty, insincere platitudes, but sincere compliments for people, businesses, organizations and movements we want to lift up.

It may be just the boost people need to continue in their work, their care of others, and their answer to God’s call.

On 1 March, we celebrate World Compliment Day, but spreading encouragement and positivity far and wide.

Are you a Christian?

A lady went into a doctor's office and during her examination the doctor noticed a cross on her neck. The doctor curious about the cross began a conversation with his patient and asked..

"I see you wear a cross around your neck, are you a Christian?"

"Yes," the lady responded to which the doctor replied.

"I am a Catholic and I am disappointed with born again Christians."

"Why?" the lady replied ...

The doctor replied in anger "Because you all talk about Jesus and how great He is but yet you never talk about His mother and I find that offensive."

After a moments silence the lady responded and said ...

"Doctor can I ask you something?"

"Of course," he replied.

The lady smiled and said, "Doctor if I make my next appointment and you are not available can I ask for your mother to come and see me instead?"

Horrified the doctor replied, "Of course you can't. I'm the one who studied medicine. I'm the one who is qualified not my mother, she may have given birth to me, but I'm the one who studied and became qualified. She knows nothing about medicine ..."

The lady responded with a smile and said ...

"That's why I talk about Jesus and not Mary. She didn't qualify to be my Saviour, she didn't die and rise again and she didn't pay the price for my sins ..."

Some things are more important

SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"
DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?"
SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?"
SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "If you must know, I make $100 an hour."
SON: "Oh! (With his head down).
SON: "Daddy, may I please borrow $50?"

The Father was furious.
DAD: "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such childish behavior."

The Little Boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The Man sat down and started to get even angrier about the Little Boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the Man had calmed down, and started to think: 'Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $50 and he really didn't ask for money very often.'

The Man went to the door of the Little Boy's room and opened the door.

DAD: "Are you asleep, Son?"

SON: "No Daddy, I'm awake".

DAD: "I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $50 you asked for."

The Little Boy sat straight up, smiling.

SON: "Oh, thank you Daddy!"

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The Man saw that the Boy already had money, started to get angry again. The Little Boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his Father.

DAD: "Why do you want more money if you already have some?"

SON: "Because I didn't have enough, but now I do. Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

The Father was crushed. He put his arms around his Little Son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love? If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for would replace us in a matter of days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

Some things are more important.

The horse with the bell ...

Just up the road from my home is a field with two horses in it.

From a distance, both horses appear to be like any other horses. But if you walk closer, you will notice something quite amazing; one of the horses is blind. However, the owner has chosen not to put down the blind horse but has made a good home for both horses.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell attached to the halter of the sighted horse. The bell is used to lead the blind horse. You will notice something amazing; the sighted horse regularly checks to see if the blind horse is hearing the bell, is following the sighted horse’s lead, and is continuing to trust that he will not be led astray.

Each evening, the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn, occasionally looking back to make sure that the blind friend isn’t too far behind.

Like the owner of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or just because we have problems or challenges.

He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes, we are like the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those whom God has placed in our lives to help us. At other times, we are like the horse with the bell, helping others to find their way.

Good friends are like that ... you may not always see them, but you know they are there.

Please listen for my bell, and I’ll listen for yours.

And remember ...

Be kinder than necessary -
Everyone you meet is fighting
Some kind of battle.
Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly ...
And leave the rest to God!

Explaining God

Although this letter can be found all over the web, we feel it is worth repeating.

"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth.

He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think they are smaller and easier to make. That way, He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because He hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it off.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere, which keeps Him pretty busy. So, you shouldn't be wasting His time by going over your mom and dad's heads asking for something they said you couldn't have.

Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think that there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church. Jesus is God's son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they crucified Him. But He was good and kind like His Father and He told His Father they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said OK.

His Dad (God) appreciated everything He had done and all His hard work on earth, so He told Him He didn't have to go out on the road anymore, He could stay in Heaven. So He did. And, now, He helps His Dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of Himself without having to bother God - like a secretary, only more important.

You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to hear you, because they got it worked out so that one of them is on duty at all times.

You should always go to church on Sunday, because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong! And, besides, the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.

If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you are scared in the dark or when you can't swim very good and you got thrown into really deep water by big kids.

But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.

And that is why I believe in God."

A true story: A spider's web

A young soldier found himself in a terrible battle during the Scottish Reformation. The enemy was soundly defeating this young man's army. He and his comrades found themselves hastily retreating from the battle field in defeat, running away in fear of their very lives. The enemy gave chase. This young man ran hard and fast, full of fear and desperation, soon found himself cut off from his comrades in arms.

He eventually came upon a rocky ledge containing a cave. Knowing the enemy was close behind, and that he was exhausted from the chase, chose to hide there. After he crawled in, he fell to his face in the darkness, desperately crying to God to save him and protect him from his enemies. He also made a bargain with God. He promised that if God saved him, he would serve Him for the remainder of his days.

When he looked up from his despairing plea for help, he saw a spider beginning to weave its web at the entrance to the cave. As he watched the delicate threads being slowly drawn across the mouth of the cave, the young soldier pondered its irony. He thought, "I asked God for protection and deliverance, and he sent me a spider instead. How can a spider save me?"

His heart was hardened, knowing the enemy would soon discover his hiding place and kill him.

And soon he did hear the sound of his enemies, who were now scouring the area looking for those in hiding. One soldier with a gun slowly walked up to the cave's entrance. As the young man crouched in the darkness, hoping to surprise the enemy in a last-minute desperate attempt to save his own life, he felt his heart pounding wildly out of control.

As the enemy cautiously moved forward to enter the cave, he came upon the spider's web, which by now was completely strung across the opening. He backed away and called out to a comrade, "There can't be anyone in here. They would have had to break this spider's web to enter the cave. Let's move on."

Years later, this young man, who made good his promise by becoming a preacher and evangelist, wrote about that ordeal. He wrote: "Where God is, a spider's web is as a stone wall. Where God is not, a stone wall is as a spider's web."

ABOUT ICE CREAM AND A CHILD'S PRAYER

"Ice Cream Is Sometimes Good For The Soul"

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would thank you even more if Mom gets us Ice Cream for dessert. And liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for Ice Cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."

"Really?" my son asked.

"Cross my heart." Then in theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "too bad she never asks God for Ice Cream. A little Ice Cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kid Ice Cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his Sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice Cream is good for the soul sometimes and my soul is good already!"
